Project Accountant

Thoughtforms is a nationally renowned construction company dedicated to building better homes that have a positive impact on individuals and the world. With a legacy dating back to 1972, we prioritize quality in terms of level of finish, the health of the indoor environment, energy efficiency, and long-term durability. We partner with clients, architects, interior designers, and landscape architects to create award-winning homes across a wide range of styles, all built with intention and care.

As a Project Accountant, you play a critical role in supporting successful project delivery by owning accurate, timely client billing and maintaining clear, reliable project financial records. You'll work closely with Project Managers and the accounting team to provide financial clarity, identify issues early, and continuously improve project accounting processes.

If you are detail-oriented, enjoy collaborating across teams, and value accuracy, transparency, and process improvement, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Own the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely client invoices in close partnership with Project Managers, incorporating approved scope, change orders, estimate updates, and job cost information
  • Review job costs and billing inputs to ensure alignment with project scope, budget status, and progress prior to invoicing
  • Review, enter, and process accounts payable invoices by verifying receipt and coding in Procore, matching invoices to check runs, and proactively resolving missing or incomplete information
  • Actively review project financials to identify anomalies, emerging issues, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for improvement
  • Provide accurate, well-organized financial information to management to support informed project and business decisions
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready project accounting records in compliance with company, regulatory, and statutory requirements
  • Partner cross-functionally with Project Managers and accounting teammates to improve workflows, documentation standards, and systems
  • Identify opportunities to adapt systems and processes to better support clients, subcontractors, vendors, and employees
  • Contribute to a small, collaborative office team by supporting HR and marketing-related tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in project accounting, construction accounting, or a closely related role
  • Demonstrated experience preparing client invoices tied to job costs, change orders, and project schedules
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors, inconsistencies, and anomalies
  • Comfort partnering closely with Project Managers in a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Familiarity with job cost reporting, WIP concepts, and project closeout processes
  • Experience supporting AR processes and resolving client billing questions
  • Hands-on experience with accounting and project management systems such as Sage 300 or Sage Intacct, Procore, and Microsoft tools (Outlook, SharePoint); ability to learn new systems
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in residential or commercial construction, architecture, or design-build environments preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in improving systems, workflows, and documentation--not just executing tasks
